TheBooksMan, Michael Enver

My name is Mike Enever and I run The Books Man from Addingham, near Ilkley on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, where I have lived for over 20 years.  In my younger days I started out as a computer software designer and programmer. These IT systems often included many accounting functions and integrated with off-the-shelf accounting packages.

To fulfil a childhood longing, in 2004 I embarked on a career change and trained as a cabinet maker, and since 2007 I've run my own business making bespoke furniture and handmade kitchens. Alongside the practical side, I was responsible for keeping all the financial records and accounts up to date, submitting VAT returns, and supplying figures to my accountant.

Having enjoyed that side of things, I decided to re-train as a bookkeeper. With the benefit of different careers and outlooks, I've gained experience in a wide variety of settings, working with people from all walks of life.

Today I offer a very personal service. I'm a Certified Bookkeeper, and a registered HMRC agent for Self Assessment, Corporation Tax, PAYE and VAT, so I can deal directly with HMRC on your behalf. I work in an informal way and use as little jargon as I can — I know the numbers side of running a business can feel daunting, so I like to keep everything as easy to understand as possible.

I can do as little or as much as you'd like, whether that's taking on every aspect of your bookkeeping and accounting or simply helping you organise your own routines and data. I hold a Practice Licence (Number 437382) awarded by the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB), the UK's largest professional body for bookkeepers, and I'm regulated by the ICB to provide a professional, confidential service. I have full Professional Indemnity Insurance and I'm fully GDPR compliant, registered with the ICO (Reference ZB043322).
